The South Carolina Music Teachers Association is composed of over 300 independent and collegiate music teachers. SCMTA members are members of the Music Teachers National Association, and many are also members of SCMTA Local Associations. We are part of the three-tiered national-state-local organization of MTNA. We also have three collegiate chapters.

SCMTA is governed by an Executive Committee (consisting of the seven elected officers) and a Board (consisting of area chairs, MTNA Competition Coordinators, SCMTA District Chairs, and Local Association Presidents).

Programs

Our annual fall conference features nationally known artists and clinicians. SCMTA also sponsors competitions and auditions each year. In addition to presenting various festivals, competitions, and recitals, each local association holds meetings for its members on a frequent basis where well-known clinicians are featured.

Auditions

For SCMTA auditions, the state is divided into seven districts. Students audition first in their district, and then in the state auditions.

Competitions

For MTNA competitions, SCMTA sponsors competitions at the state level. State winners proceed to Southern Division competitions. Division winners compete against the other five division winners in the national finals.
