Since 2022, SOUTH CAROLINA MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION has sponsored a creativity initiative to encourage and celebrate creativity among the many young students throughout the state, and to give support to the excellent music teachers of South Carolina. The purpose of this initiative is to challenge and inspire students to find out just how creative they can be.
SCMTA Composition Competition
Under this umbrella, SCMTA has launched an annual composition competition and recital as well as hosted composition workshops with composers Wynn-Anne Rossi and Mike Springer as well as a songwriting workshop with songwriting Michael Flynn (of Slow Runner).
SCMTA Song Writing Competition
Beginning in 2024, SCMTA will add a songwriting competition which will run parallel with the composition competition and feature a joint composition and songwriting honors recital.
