Dr. Seth Custer was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2020 MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year Award. His composition, Ever Soaring, Ever Singing for violin, alto saxophone, and piano, was commissioned by SCMTA for its 60th anniversary through the MTNA Commissioned Composer program and received its premiere during the 2020 SCMTA Conference.
Dr. Custer was previously name the MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year in 2010 for his work Touch & Go, commissioned by SCMTA. Custer received a bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from the University of North Dakota, his master’s degree in composition from Central Michigan University and a PhD degree in composition from the University of Iowa. He is currently a music professor at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he teaches theory, aural skills, composition and saxophone.
