SCMTA Pre-College Auditions

The South Carolina Music Teachers Association holds auditions for students of teachers of piano, voice, guitar, brass, woodwinds, and strings in order to encourage the many young students throughout the state, and to give support to the excellent private teachers of South Carolina. Performance and musicianship requirements of audition participation can supply goals against which both teachers and students can measure their progress. The purpose of the audition is to encourage each student to work to his/her fullest capacity.

SCMTA Creativity Initiative

Since 2022, SCMTA has sponsored a creativity initiative to encourage and celebrate creativity among the many young students throughout the state, and to give support to the excellent music teachers of South Carolina. The purpose of this initiative is to challenge and inspire students to find out just how creative they can be. Under this umbrella, SCMTA has launched an annual composition competition and a songwriting competition as well as hosted composition workshops with composers Wynn-Anne Rossi and Mike Springer as well as a songwriting workshop with songwriting Michael Flynn (of Slow Runner).

SCMTA Piano Skills Festival

SCMTA is launching a new program this year called the “SCMTA Piano Skills Festival”.

The Piano Skills Festival is a non-competitive, adjudicated event that promotes LIFE-LONG MUSICIANSHIP! With audition components that include keyboard technique, theory, and musicianship skills, the Festival is intended to improve and expand students’ overall pianistic and musicianship abilities. Students who consistently participate will develop skills that last a lifetime.
